Nine has announced live, free television coverage of the men's 2027 Ashes in England. Start with Nine's TV programme guide for the selected Test. A confirmed television announcement does not by itself establish the event's digital feed.
For online viewing, the 9Now instructions below explain the current account and Freeview TV setup. They are preparation steps checked on 27 October 2026, not a claim that a particular 2027 Ashes stream is already listed. Use the five-Test calendar to identify the match you want.
Prepare a Nine account and Freeview television
Create a Nine account if you plan to use 9Now
The account instructions direct you to 9Now, then Log in. Enter an email address and password, continue, and use the six-digit code sent to your email to verify the account.
Keep access to that inbox while you set up the TV. Use the email code to verify your account and the code on the TV to connect that device.
Connect the 9Now Freeview app on a television
9Now's Freeview help describes the following process:
- Launch the TV app and choose Log in to 9Now.
- Keep the six-digit activation code on the TV screen.
- On the 9Now website or mobile app, choose Connect Your TV.
- Enter the code from the television and finish activation.
Use these steps for Freeview. For another device, follow its own instructions; the menus may differ. Before a match, check both that the TV is signed in and that the event page is available for your location.
The confirmed television route
Nine's 2027 programming release, dated 17 September 2026, promises live and free coverage of the Ashes series in England. Check the free television route before paying for another service.
Check online access from Australia
9Now's location rules restrict its live and on-demand content to viewers in Australia. The help page also notes that a VPN can interfere with access even when you are in the country.
If you see a location error, check the service's own troubleshooting guidance. Do not purchase another subscription simply because an account or connection problem stopped playback. When travelling outside Australia, consult the international viewing guide for the country where you will be watching.
Check the 2027 event, not just the app
Check the channel and programme name when the event listings appear. The 2027 announcement covers more than one cricket competition, so keep the men's Test series separate from the women's Ashes and other matches in the same year.
Find the men's 2027 Ashes in the match listings and confirm live play on your device. Highlights and recorded programmes can appear alongside live channels; they do not confirm that a full Test stream is available.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nine's announced television coverage free?
Yes. Nine describes its 2027 Ashes television coverage as live and free.
Will the 2027 Ashes be on 9Now?
Nine's checked announcement confirms television coverage. Check the event-specific digital listing before relying on 9Now.
Do the email and TV activation codes do the same thing?
No. The email code verifies the account. The code shown on the television connects that device.
Will I need to connect the Freeview TV app every day?
9Now says reactivation is required after app updates or more than 90 days of inactivity, rather than on every viewing.
Can I take 9Now overseas?
Its content is restricted to Australia. An Australian account does not establish overseas playback rights.
Should I buy a subscription used for the previous Australian Ashes?
Check the England 2027 rights and current listing first. The broadcaster for an earlier series does not determine this one.
Digital match access remains separate from the confirmed TV announcement.
